The Host City of GOS 2008: Zhengzhou |
Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, is both a historic city and a increasingly modernized commercial and trade city. It is also one of the Eight Ancient Capitals in China’s history. Located in the middle part of China, Zhengzhou is a important transportation and communication hub as well as a significant station of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge.
Zhengzhou has a profound history, a rich culture and abundant tourism resources. Such places of interests as the hometown of Yellow Emperor, Peiligang culture sites, Dahocun site, Xiadu Yangcheng site, Shangcheng site witness a civilization of more than 8000 years. The cultural tourism cluster along the Yellow River, for example, Huanghe Sightseeing Area and Dacun Site, and the Songshan Scenic Spot where the Shaolin Temple and the Songshan National Forest Park are located add unique charm to the city.
Natural resources abound in this city. The city teems with such food and economic crops as wheat, corn, grain, cotton, tobacco leaf, peanut, sesame, and fruits as well as. It is also famous such specialty as Xinzheng Chinese date, Zhongmou garlic and Yellow River carp. Until now, 34 different types of minerals have been found in Zhengzhou. The city has a rich reserve of Alumina and saggar and the conditions for exploitation are very good.
Zhengzhou is located in Middle China as a comprehensive transportation and communication hub with convenient railway, highway, flight routes and channel of information. The Jingguang and Longhai hign irons cross here in Zhengzhou; No.107 and 310 national highway as well as three freeways (Zheng, Bian, Luo) also pass through the city. Apart from that, the city has the largest truck marshalling station in Asia, three ports ractified by the State Council and the Xinzheng International Airport. Zhengzhou’s postal service and telecommunication operation are among the top in China. And Zhengzhou is also the gateway to Middle China. |
